Training Course at South Mains Farm 23-24 April, 2022
Eight trainees under the guidance of Malcolm Collins enjoyed the first training season weekend at South Mains at the end of April. The furthest travelled trainee was from Skye and several of the group had come from the central belt. Progress at the start was slow due to more tree roots needing to be removed or made manageable, but after coffee the group got working on the foundations and it wasn’t too long before the wall began to take shape.
The weather was kind to us throughout the weekend and the final result was one of which the group could be proud. Everyone seemed to enjoy the experience and it looks like we will have a few more members as a result.
‘David and I would like to thank you both for the wonderful weekend that we have had at South Mains. Your organisation of the course, encouragement and enthusiasm for the art of dry stone walling has been so enjoyable and we’re set to become members and learn more.’
As always Kirsty and Daan were excellent hosts and although Daan wasn’t able to be present on the Saturday Kirsty still managed to provide a small feast.
She was also busy looking after the smallest triplet of the lambs born a short time before. This too entertained the group in between walling.
One even made it into a final photo. Cracker obviously felt his place had been usurped!
