Repair and Build at Dungarthill 11-12 June, 2022

Read on

A second members’ day at this popular venue near Dunkeld provided further opportunities to work with challenging stone. Before the group could begin working on the field wall some members went back to cope the wall, which had been built in May. This wall was particularly tricky to build since it necessitated incorporating a fallen tree. See photos below.

Six members with Trish as supervisor had a good weekend repairing a field wall. Bill, Richard and Robert returned on the Sunday. The existing wall made us amateurs feel rather smug as it was easy to criticise the quality of its construction. It is very unstable due to lack of hearting, trace building, use of small stone below and large higher up.

Below left, the original wall and right Richard works on stabilising the field wall.

Above - A further two stretches of wall being rebuilt.

An audience of alpacas

lodging in a neighbouring field seemed to enjoy watching us throughout the day and we too enjoyed their beautiful presence.

With thanks to Trish Waite and Robert Dunlop for providing text and photographs.
