Annual CSB AGM, 6th November 2022

The Central Scotland Branch held their AGM at Luncarty Village hall in Perthshire, a venue we have used previously.

There was an excellent turn out. The hall was almost full with approximately 20 members attending. Delicious soup and various snacks were enjoyed before folks settled down for Martin Tyler’s much anticipated PowerPoint presentation on a project he recently worked on.

James Parker, a renowned Scottish sculptor, had invited Martin - with his colleagues from Dry Stone Walling Perthshire - to work for and with him on a doocot (dovecote) on the Teasses Estate in Fife.

Martin took us through every stage of creating the fascinating structure with great detail in the presentation and thorough descriptions of the design, planning and build. Every stone was meticulously measured and checked, you can see the stone on each course is exactly level for the next course and so on.

There were lots of questions and everyone appreciated the talk.

The finished doocot is stunning and luxury accommodation for the new residents who have already moved in.

Thanks very much Martin for sharing this.

Next was the business of the day, Kate and Dorothy took us through the annual accounts which are healthy and with six new members this year, we are encouraged for next year and beyond.

The Chairwoman’s report mentioned the five beginners’ training courses (popular during and after Lockdown), and the enjoyable build at Crathes in Aberdeenshire. There’s also new interest in practical outdoor experience for secondary schools, from teachers looking for an alternative curriculum for some of their less-academically minded pupils. Some of our qualified instructors were provided to give advice on dry stone walling.

Two new members were elected to the committee, Robert Dunlop and Elaine Ross, both had been on recent training courses and have attended several member events since.

All in all an afternoon well spent, thanks to all who attended - it was good to see everyone.

Sincere thanks again to Martin for his excellent presentation.

And of course for the food and refreshments provided - thank you. Delicious and appreciated!
