Kinross Show 13th August, 2022

On Saturday 13th of August we had the opportunity to showcase the work of the branch with a stall and demonstration at Kinross Agricultural show near the banks of Loch Leven.  Members Sue Moody and Steve Donne tended the stall and there was to be an opportunity to build a demonstration wall under the guidance of Master Craftsman, Norman Haddow. Newer members, Robert Dunlop and Elaine Ross represented the branch.

However, on arrival there was an alternative plan for the build.

An old dyke around the showground had, in the past, a relatively small entrance gate. The original cheek ends had been removed (and left beside the dyke) in order to extend the gateway. Here was an ideal opportunity to rebuild the cheekend and create something permanent. With an additional pile of stone dropped off there were plenty of builders and hearting. The original stone was sorted with some fine copes identified.

The CSB tent was the first tent in the field - so perfectly situated.  On arrival, members of the public saw the build at the entrance and could immediately access further information in the tent.

The sun hadn’t quite broken through when the project began., but by the end of the day the heat was intense.

Good progress was made through a sunny mid morning and a nice curve to join the original dyke started to form

Meanwhile, the stall looked after by Sue and Steve was proving very popular. The fantastic miniature walls were a great attraction. There were also small loose stones for folk to investigate including interesting dyke finds like an old Victorian shoe complete with hobnails; lots of leaflets and general information. An excellent display and well received. By the end of the day Sue had 5 names interested in getting further information.

Work resumed after lunch with Norman carefully selecting and expertly crafting the copes.

Soon the dyke was finished and there to be appreciated as people left the event

There is word we may be back next year to work on the other side and complete the project.

Thanks again to all for their input on the day and to Robert and Kate for their photos.
