It was an enthusiastic bunch of eight trainees from all corners of our area and beyond, who arrived at South Mains for the first course of the year. Kate welcomed the group and Stuart McDonald, instructor for the day, led them through the various stages of building a wall. Daan had done a wonderful job of setting out pallets of stone at both sides of the wall and he and Kirsty continued to provide whatever was required throughout the day.
Training and Members’ Practice
Eleven cheerful trainees worked to extend the new wall at Blackruthven in late July. Jim Grant and Ron McGill led their teams through this project from the spade / pick / mattock stage to the final point of placing the copes. Our courses in the past have mostly been repair rather than new build, but with two of the estate’s staff on the course it’s becoming clear that they will be the repairers of the future.
It was another superb event at Cambo Estate this weekend. While Stuart and Billy took the beginners training course, Gregor and Malcolm were tasked with building a short section of wall at the newly renovated stable block.
